This song is about what is happening in the world around us. But is also talks about the earth( how much beautiful the earth is). Infact through its lyrics it mentions the nature including the sea, annimals, weather etc. The rain and sunrise mentioned could also refer to the good and bad times people have to go through. This vidoe makes us conscious about things happening around us such us the harming of the environment, rights, believes, war, abortion and other important aspects which people should take care and take action about them.

Earth song is about the degradation of the natural world around us - we've turned it into a koyaaniqatsi.
Our life is completely out of balance, and mankind is to be blamed.
If it weren't for such reckless use of technology, the Earth wouldn't be "crying". Even babies, children and men are suffering due to the damage we have caused. We're corrupting both land and sea - for example, the song mentions elephants and whales which are both endangered species. The video contains footage of poaching, war, poverty and famine which fit together perfectly with the song. It concludes by correcting all the mistakes we have done - such as the elephant coming back to life. This correction should become a reality, but nevertheless, people will continue to damage the Earth.

In this song, Michael Jackson wants to make us aware of what is happening around us in the world. He puts a series of questions but at the same time, he is accusing human beings of being the perpetrators of all evil and damage to the earth.
He is wondering why many countries continue to fight in useless wars, when we should already have learnt a lesson, from World War 1 and 2 when millions of lives were lost for nothing. Jackson also wants us to realize the hardship we are putting innocent children through. He also makes reference to the damage we are causing to nature with our despicable behaviour towards the environment. Living Organisms are also suffering through our selfishness. Certain animals will also become extinct. He also refers to deforestation and factors leading to global warming as seen in the footage. Jackson criticizes humans for not respecting opinions such as freedom of religion. We should be ashamed of ourselves but Jackson just wonders if it is too late for us to make peace between ourselves and mother nature.

  1. Michaela says:

This song is mainly about the environmental & animal welfare but is also tackles other subjects. The world is being ruined by such HUMAN practices like war, jealousy, pollution .. all leading to a negative impact on our world. It says that the world's nature belongs to everyone "You said was yours and mine" and so we have to take care of it. If we harm the environment we are being jealous as this isn't ours. Wars also occur due to jealousy and this leads in people dying. Besides, people no longer carry the sense of sharing and so there are people crying for food and so end up dying with hunger. Michael Jackson says that we destroyed the "planet's womb" and "turned kingdoms to dust". Due to pollution water is dirty and so "whale are crying". At the end of the songs appear 2 rhetoric questions that no one can answer: "someone tell me why?", " Do we give a damn" .. these are used to make us feel guilty about all the harm WE humans are doing!!
In the video we see the destruction of the environment like trees falling, places burning and demolished buildings. It also shows seals being killed by people, while other people were crying and others fighting in wars. People and animals where moving from their habitat and searching a new home, hoping for a better place. At the end of the video one notice that trees go back to their place and dead animals regain life. Pollution stopped and people started smiling. But this wasn't reality, this was just a DREAM.

Michael Jackson in this song is trying to tell us that most of the damage and harm on earth is caused by us, the human beings. This song mentions alot of different aspects that are ruining it mainly wars, discrimination, deforestation and injustice. Not only the earth is suffering due to our irresponsible acts but we are making life more difficult for ourselves so we are harming ourselves aswell. At the end of the video, the trees which were cut are put back together to form the original tree as it should be and the elephants that were dead came back to life. This part is a very important part in the video because it shows us how much better the earth is if take good care of it and be more responsible for our actions.

It is very obvious that this song is talking about the environmental and social problems we find ourselves struggling to fight every day, but what is not so obvious is the fact that we are unaware of the severity of the situation. We somehow have it in our heads that it is under control, but the truth is that we have never been in control ! We have reached breaking point. This is clearly stated in the song :
'Now I don't know where we are,
Although i know we've drifted far'
What Michael Jackson is trying to do is ( by using his fame and popularity) alert people about this crisis and try and change the mentality of those whose minds reflect war, hate and negligence to the environment .

Video : The video showed, from a physical view, what is happening in the world, now that people have forgotten and abandoned their feelings for the earth and its creatures.

Music: The music made the person think about what has happened and maybe even regret it.

Lyrics: The lyrics are trying to show us how people have changed, and how the have forgotten about love and peace, and how they've destroyed everything beautiful. It also tells us how we corrupted the Seas, Skies, and fields and disregarded all the creatures and trees that God created for us.

This song makes you stop and think about what is really going on in the world. It is about all the children who are dying and suffering during the wars. It is also about the deforestation of trees and how human kind destroyed the natural habitat of a lot of animals that are now in risk of extinction. It is about how unbalance life has became because of the everyday man.

Basically the song is about world development. Infact if i were to change the name of Micheal Jackson's song-''the earth song'' i would name it ''reality'', since the lyrics are based about nature, the importance of the environment, aspects about war and all the natural features that happen in real life on earth. The singer even uses retorical question to make us aware of what i happening such as:''what about sunrise? what about animals? what about the elephants? and more. The song also talks about wars which seem to have took place but never ended and due this we have poor people.
Personally im not a fan of Micheal Jackson but through this song he is leaving us an important message that: we need to start thinking about earth and make the world a better place for everyone

This song speaks clearly about some of the evil things that peoples have been doing to earth, in the past and in the present. It is firstly a plea for peace; he talks directly to the world’s leaders and tells them to stop wars. The leaders are trying to control all the people so we have lost our freedom to live the way we choose. It also mentions the environmental problems we are creating, the forests that we need to live with have been chopped down, and the seas are getting worse with all the chemicals that have been thrown in it. The environmental problems are creating more problems for animals like the elephants and the whales. The technology that we have created keeps us from noticing the real beautiful things that really matter so that we could live and let our future generations live after us. It’s like we have lost our values because we don’t respect each other anymore, we only care about us…how are we going to make ourselves better. We don’t learn from the mistakes we’ve taken in the past so we will never really improve ourselves.

The video shows how much people appreciated the simple things in the past. It also shows part of our future if we don’t change our behaviour towards earth soon.

  1. Daniela says:

By this song, Michael Jackson is trying to open ones eyes about what is really happening in the world around us.

The environment is being led to a total destruction, and many species of animals are being extinct because of pollution and actions by mankind.

Moreover, many innocent lives are being killed everyday due to social injustice, racism and severe discrimination and democratic injustice. These are some of the factors that lead to war, over and over again, humans never seem to learn. No one tries to compromise in order to reach a common agreement, for the sake of a better living.

All of what we're doing now will have repercussions in the near future, for the following human generations, for our own children.

  1. Andrew says:

This song is about the selfishness of humanity, It starts with the words “what about?” The video shows deforestation , scenes of war and the people left homeless , elephants being poached and dolphins being caught in nets just for food or as ornaments, Why is all of this is being done ? By these scenes of different places A big question is asked “Why?”

  1. This very effective song about the world and what is happening around us has a very important message to send ..

The first two elements mentioned are the sun and the rain. Jackson mentions a series of things happening around us which we could help with but are doing nothing to do so ....

The list starts with killing fields and the blood shed during wars .Jackson enphasises that the earth is crying and the shores are weeping . He is asking the important questions: "what have we done to the earth?" and "what about peace?"
These questions bring to mind loads of issues few of these are : children dead from wars , apathy, elephants killed for tusks , burnt forests and more ...

The world is wounded and we have to make a move and see that we do something about all of this.....

  1. Tiziana says:

It's a song related to our planet Earth and it describes mostly the consequences of our technology and wars so that we look to what we've done and try to notice all the love and peace we shared before.

The killing fields are compared to the flowering fields, hoping that there will be a time to achieve all the dreams we have. And above all,m after the causes of war, did you ever stop to notice all the children dead on the floor.

Discrimination against Africans, civil rights, abortion ...
    "It's our planets womb!"

The "Earth song" music video was shot on four continents, all of which are form of sorrow created br man and his technology. Locations include: The Amazon Forest, Croatia, Tanzania and New York

  1. The Earth Song by Michael Jackson is a very good song. It applies to today's life. The lyrics speak for themselves. The world has changed, mostly in a terrible way. And we have to blame ourselves. It is humans who created wars and weapons which lead to the death of innocent people. Humans are also destroying nature and all those species depending on it: eg: cutting down forests for wood or for building space. The world is no longer the way it used to be. Throughout the song Michael Jackson repeats the phrase "What About Us?" to highlight the appaling way we are behaving towards our planet or the plight of generations to come. Understanding the lyrics makes you reflect about what is happening around us and makes you realise that what the King Of Pop is saying is really true and applies to our times. :)
